When previewing Brentford's trip to Sunderland, their head coach Keith Andrews has spoken about Jordan Henderson's return to his boyhood club in what is sure to be an emotional day for Hendo. Andrews also spoke about the Yoane Wissa transfer saga and admitted that, once again, their star forward won't be involved at the weekend.
HENDERSON RETURN
“I’m sure it will be a special day for him. Sunderland have produced good players over the years, and Jordan is certainly one of them. It’ll be nice for him to go back, and I know he’ll get a fantastic reception.”
SOL ATMOSPHERE
“I can’t wait for it. It’s a traditional ground and, with the journey they’ve been on, having dipped down the divisions at times, they’ve got a fanbase that is so passionate and engaged. I’m really looking forward to the atmosphere, and I know our players will feed off that. We’ve seen the best of Sunderland in periods against West Ham – they can be very, very dangerous.”
CUP WIN V BOURNEMOUTH
“We showed another side of ourselves in the cup and it worked well at times. We need to be able to change shape when required, and the players have adapted to that brilliantly. Whether we stick with that this weekend remains to be seen, but I want us to be unpredictable.”
TRANSFER UPDATE
"Weird and wonderful things can happen in the final few days of a window. Possibly one or two of the younger players may go out on loan if we feel it’s right. I’m pretty content with what we’ve got, but if the club feels there’s an opportunity to add someone who can improve us, we’ll look at it.”
WISSA SITUATION
“Nothing’s changed in terms of my stance. There’s no movement behind the scenes, so the situation is the same as the other day. The squad will be pretty much the same as it was – we’re focusing on the group that’s settled and doesn’t have issues ongoing, which clearly Yoane has. I speak to Yoane pretty much daily. I’ve got huge respect for him and the relationship we’ve had, but for obvious reasons, it’s been difficult. He’s training, yes, but we’re concentrating on the group that’s fully settled. I think the football club wants to hold on to Yoane, and I certainly don’t want to lose him. My view hasn’t changed – we want him here.”
