Sunderland sent 14 players out on loan in the last transfer window and their destinations have varied from teams playing in the European competitions and in top flights across Europe to the depths of non league in England. Here’s a quick rundown of how they’ve been getting on, with this being part two of a three part series of articles:
LUIS HEMIR
Luis Hemir has been sent on a season-long loan to Primeira Liga outfit Moreirense with an option to buy but has so far failed to make any appearances. The striker’s team currently occupy fifth spot in the Portuguese top flight, just one point from the European spots and they are still yet to start their cup campaigns in either the Portuguese League Cup or Cup of Portugal.
TREY SAMUEL-OGUNSUYI
Trey Samuel-Ogunsuyi has made four appearances for Falkirk, all of which have come off of the bench in the Scottish Premiership. Falkirk are 10th in the league, just two points off of the foot of the table but also only two points from the top six, the newly-promoted club’s main goal this season will be to avoid an immediate return to the second tier. They’re out of the Scottish League Cup but will play in the Scottish Cup later in the season. The Belgian striker will stay with the Bairns until the conclusion of the campaign.
OLIVER BAINBRIDGE
Oliver Bainbridge is currently out on loan at South Shields, alongside Rhys Walsh. Bainbridge’s loan is scheduled to come to an end on the 4th January. The left back has featured three times, at the time of writing, and has contributed to two clean sheets within that. The Mariners sit unbeaten at the top of the National League North, having conceded just four goals in the league in 10 matches, three points ahead of second place. They’re also currently one game away from qualifying for the first round proper of the FA Cup and they will compete in the FA Trophy in the months to come.
ALAN BROWNE
Alan Browne is spending the 2025/26 campaign with Championship Middlesbrough and he’s played five times so far. Four of those runouts have come from the bench but he has made one start in a stalemate with Stoke City. Boro are second in the division below us, two points clear of third place and having lost just once in their opening nine league fixtures. The North Yorkshire outfit have been knocked out of the League Cup but obviously still have the FA Cup to play in.
NIALL HUGGINS
Niall Huggins is out on loan at Wycombe Wanderers for the season and has registered two assists in five games in all competitions. The first of these came in a 2-0 away win against Wigan Athletic in the League Cup and the second against Fulham U21s in the EFL Trophy (a 3-1 victory). The right back also helped his side keep a clean sheet on his debut, a 2-0 home win over Mansfield Town. At the moment, Wycombe are 20th in League One, being kept out of the drop zone on goal difference only. For the time being then, they’ll be trying to make sure they aren’t a fourth tier club come the end of the season but they are still in the League Cup and can still get out of the group stage of the EFL Trophy with the FA Cup yet to start for them.
