Sunderland once again threw away points late on, the third time in four matches, as our unbeaten run came to an end and our winless run extended to six matches.
ANTHONY PATTERSON: 6/10
He probably should have done better with the goal, he’s not the one most at fault for it though. Made a really important save a little bit earlier at his near post. His distribution was okay but nothing special.
LUKE O’NIEN: 6/10
Almost let them in with an error a few minutes after the goal but he was alright for most of the rest of the game.
CHRIS MEPHAM: 5/10
Mepham was quite good but he got himself sent off, which could have easily led to us not having any hope of getting anything from the match. Not his finest moment since joining us.
DAN BALLARD: 6.5/10
Played quite well tonight but he did send a close range effort well wide of the post in second half stoppage time.
TRAI HUME: 7/10
Did well at right back before moving into a back three following the red, and was good at distributing the ball to other players.
DAN NEIL: 6/10
Yet again had a fantastic chance to get a shot away but chose to try and find a pass for some reason. Other than that, Neil was effective in his defensive midfield role.
JOBE BELLINGHAM: 7/10
Seemed quite pacy tonight and was good at creating space for himself. Needs to be more combative at times though.
PATRICK ROBERTS: 5/10
Missed a penalty and didn’t offer much else to make up for it. I think he needs some competition for his position.
CHRIS RIGG: 6.5/10
Should have put a foot in for their goal and had the odd moment here and there. Overall a decent shift from him though and he created the most chances (four) of any player on the pitch this evening.
TOMMY WATSON: 7/10
Better than in the West Brom game, he definitely dribbled more effectively and he did really well to win the penalty. He still struggled to put a tackle in, didn’t fare well when things got physical and should release the ball sooner.
WILSON ISIDOR: 6/10
Partially to the blame for the goal because he chose to go down after minimal contact in the edge of the box rather than carrying on and getting a shot away. With him always looking to steal the ball off someone, aside from that, he did create some threat however.
SUBS:
ELIEZER MAYENDA: 6.5/10
Did well after he came on and got into the box a couple of times. Should start ahead of Roberts on Saturday.
AJI ALESE: 6/10
Alese was decent going forward but struggled defensively at times. Unfortunate to be involved in their winner as his tackle fell to an opposing player.
AARON CONNOLLY: N/A
He wasn’t on the pitch long enough for a rating.
ADIL AOUCHICHE: N/A
No rating but good to see him back and he looked bright with his limited time.
