WORRYING SIGNS

Another game. Another big opportunity missed. I am starting to get a sense of déjà vu as we approach the half-way point of the season and a promising start is in danger of falling away.

That’s six games without a win now and after our undefeated streak came dramatically to an end last night, a glass half full now looks decidedly half empty.

Injuries have not helped maintain the early momentum with the pace and goal threat of Romaine Mundle a serious miss. Elsewhere, the goals have dried up. With the talented Wilson Isidor misfiring, the case for starting Eliezer Mayenda, who did nothing wrong before losing his place due to injury, grows. For me, there’s the fear that the absence of a prolific scorer may cost us again when it matters most.

For Le Bris, the winless streak has brought unflattering comparisons with his predecessor ,Jack Ross, as many good first half performances have been squandered with us sitting back and surrendering the initiative. Coventry immediately springs to mind. No promotion wannabes should be throwing away a 2-0 half time lead at home against a struggling lower league team. Millwall is another one which may come back to haunt us after a hard earned three points were lost in familiar fashion in injury time. We are a side that has lost their ruthless streak and the ability to kill off a game when on top.

When looking who to blame, I am not yet in the Jack Ross camp and I am prepared to give Le Bris the benefit of the doubt after a spectacular start to the season but patience is beginning to wear thin. As we threaten to descend into a familiar slide, Le Bris needs to turn things around quickly before another season slips away.

Le Bris has said patience may be needed when the team hits a bad run. Well, the latest disappointment has confirmed we are now in one. It’s time for him to show what he is made of.
