Despite signing 12 players already and getting off to a winning start against West Ham, Sunderland are showing no signs of slowing down and have reportedly been making moves for two more players to strengthen the squad before the window closes...
LUCUMI
Firstly, one that's been drawn out over the summer, Sunderland have supposedly tabled a new offer for Bologna centre back Jhon Lucumi. The Black Cats have been tracking the defender for a while and had a bid rejected earlier in the window. The 27-year-old previously had a £24m release clause in his contract, but with Sunderland attempting to negotiate a lower fee an agreement was never reached. Now though, it is said that the player wants to play in the Premier League. Bologna are reluctant to sell the Columbia international but, with Lucumi entering the last year of his contract, the Italian outfit may be tempted to cash in for the right price. Sunderland are clearly willing to spend the money if the right deal is available.
FATAWU
As well as Lucumi, Sunderland are now involved in talks with Leicester City over a potential deal for winger Abdul Fatawu. Reports have claimed that the Black Cats have had a bid of around £30m rejected for the Ghana international, with the Foxes reluctant to sell despite their relegation. Fatawu still has four years left on his contract and played a big part in Leicester's promotion two seasons ago under Enzo Maresca, but is coming off the back of an injury-hit Premier League debut campaign where he tore his ACL and made just 11 league appearances. Fatawu is comfortable on either wing which would give us some much-needed depth, with Patrick Roberts out of favour and Romaine Mundle currently out of action. Their new boss Marti Cifuentes has spoken of his desire to keep the versatile winger but with Leicester experiencing financial trouble, they may wish to ease the burden with a big-money sale...
