Sunderland eased past Burnley to remain the only team in the Premier League unbeaten at home. An early own goal (unfortunately it has been credited as one) set the course of the evening before Habib Diarra’s first Sunderland goal doubled our lead prior to the break. A wonderful goal from Chemsdine Talbi wrapped things up with less than 20 minutes to go and we were able to see out the clean sheet without much difficulty. The win pushes us back into the top half of the table, just three points behind sixth place.
ROBIN ROEFS: 8/10
Didn’t have a save to make all night but did well with commanding his box. To be honest he could have joined the supporters in the stands behind the goals in both halves and I don’t think anything would have changed.
TRAI HUME: 7.5/10
Passing a bit eschew but other than nothing really to complain about, almost scored late on but had his effort blocked.
NORDI MUKIELE: 8.5/10
Had a lot of freedom to operate higher up the pitch today and did well with the limited defensive work he had to do.
DAN BALLARD: 9/10
Their attackers were hopeless against him, he barely put a foot wrong all game.
OMAR ALDERETE: 7.5/10
He almost let them in at one point in the first half but after that he was great. Went off with a knock it looked like, so hopefully that’s nothing too serious.
REINILDO: 8.5/10
Also happy to move up the pitch and was credited with the assist for our third goal. Maybe he didn’t always do perfectly because of how physical they were but we didn’t concede at the end of the day.
HABIB DIARRA: 9.5/10
So unlucky to be denied the brace because his first goal was taken away and awarded as an own goal but fantastic to see him get off the mark in red and white. Midfield work was good too, we’re a much better team with him in it.
NOAH SADIKI: 7.5/10
Didn’t do anything wrong but had quite a quiet game. Then again, we were never pressured by Burnley in any major way.
ENZO LE FEE: 9/10
Battling performance tonight, they couldn’t touch him. Got stuck in on a number of occasions too.
CHEMSDINE TALBI: 9.5/10
Constantly buzzing about on his side of the wing and coped really well with Kyle Walker, who still looks a very good player at this level based on tonight. What a strike to seal the three points too.
BRIAN BROBBEY: 8/10
Really good tonight in those horrible physical fights for possession and was quite unlucky not to score I thought.
SUBS:
LUTSHAREL GEERTRUIDA: 7/10
Didn’t have lots of time to do much but what he did do was good, calm and collected as always.
ROMAINE MUNDLE: 7/10
Same as Geertruida, did well to get to the byline a couple of times.
WILSON ISIDOR: 6.5/10
Did well to get a shot away at one point but hard to judge him off of seven touches.
LUKE O’NIEN: N/A
Came on and helped see out the clean sheet, always good to see him in a Sunderland shirt.
