IPSWICH (A) PLAYER RATINGS

Sunderland were defeated on opening day by newly promoted Ipswich Town. The home team took the lead through Emersonn before a great strike from a free kick by Nilson Angulo levelled things before the break. In the 90th minute though, former SAFC man Jack Clarke won it for the hosts.

ROBIN ROEFS: 6/10

Didn’t have a lot to do and couldn’t have done much about either goal. Saying that, his distribution was shocking.

THOMAS MEUNIER: 6.5/10

I thought he did well under difficult circumstances and taking into account it was his debut. He was sometimes a bit unsure of himself but his teammates weren’t always helping.

DAN BALLARD: 5/10

Bad in the first half and played a role in their first goal, got skipped past like he wasn’t even there. Better in the second half. I’m not sure he’s completely fit.

LUKE O’NIEN: 3/10

He was awful, let them in for the opener and almost did the exact same thing after the break.

REINILDO: 6.5/10

One of our better players to be fair to him, at least he didn’t make any stupid errors.

GRANIT XHAKA: 6.5/10

Completely average performance with one or two bright moments, not positive enough going forward.

NOAH SADIKI: 5.5/10

Not completely blameless for the winner but had a good game other than that. On a slightly different day he scores.

TRAI HUME: 5.5/10

Chance creation was alright but he’s not a winger and he missed two really good opportunities to get a shot away.

ENZO LE FEE: 6.5/10

He was okay, had a few good dribbles but a bit weak when challenged.

NILSON ANGULO: 6.5/10

I’ve bumped him up a couple of points because he scored a fantastic goal. Terrible other than that.

BRIAN BROBBEY: 5/10

Missed two chances he really should have scored in my opinion.

SUBS: 

CHEMSDINE TALBI: 4.5/10

Offered little and didn’t reinvigorate us like most (including me) expected.

OMAR ALDERETE: 4.5/10

Caused an error that led to their second goal, other than that he was an improvement from O’Nien.

WILSON ISIDOR: 6/10

Didn’t have much of a chance to do much, had one good moment holding the ball up. 

CHRIS RIGG: 5.5/10

Similar circumstances to Isidor, most of our play was down the other side.

HABIB DIARRA: 6/10

Didn’t really notice him too much so just defaulted to a six.
