Ahead of our return to Premier League action this weekend we’ve taken a look at how all of our lads performed on international duty. The list of players away has grown massively over the summer. This is the second and final part.
SIMON ADINGRA: IVORY COAST
Seychelles 0-7 Ivory Coast
This one was a bit of a mismatch, with the Ivory Coast putting on a masterclass against the Pirates. Simon Adingra came off the bench and put the final nails in their coffin, scoring the sixth goal and assisting the last. Maybe beating Seychelles 7-0 isn’t an amazing feat though, as they also suffered the same scoreline against Gambia in the next match…
Ivory Coast 3-0 Kenya
Once again, Adingra came off the bench to see out a victory for his country. This time, their win confirmed their place at the 2026 World Cup thanks to goals from Franck Kessie, Yan Diomande and former Sunderland favourite Amad Diallo. The Elephants' next international fixtures come in the Africa Cup of Nations, they'll play Mozambique, Cameroon and Gabon.
ELIEZER MAYENDA: SPAIN U21s
Spain U21s 4-1 Norway U21s
Eliezer Mayenda played the second half as Spain won 4-1 against Norway. The goals were scored by Miguel Carvalho, Angel Ortiz, Wassim Keddari and formerly linked summer target Gonzalo Garcia (Real Madrid). Notably, Marc Guiu was an unused substitute.
Spain U21s 2-1 Finland U21s
For the second game running, Mayenda came off the bench at half time. However, this time he scored his first goal at U21 international level to equalise in their Euro qualifying fixture. The 20-year-old scored in the 90th minute, before Gonzalo Garcia completed the comeback in stoppage time. The victory sees them sat top of Group A. In November they'll host San Marino and travel to Romania for their next two qualification matches.
TIMUR TUTIEROV: UKRAINE U21s
Ukraine U21s 3-3 Hungary U21s
Timur Tutierov played the first half in this goal-filled encounter but did not get on the scoresheet himself. He was subbed at half time for Andrii Matkevych who scored to make it 2-2 at the time.
Croatia U21s 1-0 Ukraine U21s
Timur made a late appearance in his country’s close defeat to Croatia, coming on for the last ten minutes as Ukraine continue their U21 European Championship qualifying campaign. In the coming month the Ukrainians will be hosted by Turkey, who sit top of the qualification group.
MATTY YOUNG: ENGLAND U21s
MOLDOVA U21s 0-4 ENGLAND U21s
Matty Young wasn't included in the matchday squad for this Euro U21 qualifier win away to Moldova. Former Sunderland midifielder Jobe Bellingham was the captain however.
ENGLAND U21s 1-0 ANDORRA U21
Young was also not even on the bench for the second win of the window, Bellingham again captained the side and play-off final hero Tommy Watson was also involved. England occupy second place in their group, one point behind Slovakia, after three win from three with a game in hand. They host Ireland next followed by a trip to Slovakia.
CHRIS RIGG: ENGLAND U19s
England U19s 4-1 BELGIUM U19s
In the first of two friendlies, Chris Rigg played just under 70 minutes and was the captain.
ENGLAND U19s 7-0 WALES U19s
Rigg had the same amount of game time in this one but managed to find the back of the net, scoring the seventh and final goal of the match. The U19s kick off their Euro qualification campaign in November, playing Lithuania, Latvia and Scotland, hosted by the first of those nations.
MATTHEW BURNS: NORTHERN IRELAND U19s
USA U19 4-0 NORTHERN IRELAND U19s
I couldn't find any information on this game other than the scoreline but I did find some information saying that Matthew Burns hasn't yet been capped at an U19 level, so he must have either been stuck on the bench or not in the matchday squad.
SWITZERLAND U19s 2-2 NORTHERN IRELAND U19s
I could find some information on this game, Burns was on the bench but didn't make an appearance. Northern Ireland also start their bid to make it to the U19 Euros in Wales next year, their group is hosted by Malta and they'll also face off against Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic next month.
IVAN STRUK: LATVIA U19s
Ivan Struk didn't play any games this break, with Latvia's U19s just going away for a training camp. As mentioned, they're in England's group for the Euro qualifiers, their next match is against Scotland, followed by England and finally Lithuania.
