As SAFC begin their historic European journey this autumn, there are going to be a few gaps in the Sunderland fixture list, so we’ve got a suggestion for how to fill them…
When the Black Cats are playing in Europe, or the fixture list has been shifted to a Sunday, why not head down the road to the Brewery Field and get your Saturday afternoon football fix with Spennymoor Town FC?
Just a short trip from Sunderland, the Moors offer the chance to experience local football, meet fellow North East supporters and spend a Saturday afternoon doing what we all love: watching a proper game of football.
There’s plenty on offer. The Brewery Field boasts some seriously impressive facilities for a club at our level, with two fully stocked bars, delicious food from local traders Chicken Ting, as well as pre and post-match entertainment in the Club House. Add in a proper football atmosphere and you’ve got everything you need for a great afternoon out.
Okay, the atmosphere might not quite match the Roker Roar… yet. But we reckon we can make a decent noise together!
The Brewery Field is around a 30-minute drive from Sunderland city centre, making it an easy trip for anyone looking for their football fix. Coming by public transport? The X20 to Durham followed by the X21 to Spennymoor will get you to the town in around 90 minutes.
So, when Sunderland are away in Europe, or your usual Saturday plans are suddenly free, why not give the Moors a go?
