WHO IS CALLUM DOYLE?

Sunderland have been linked with a two year loan move for Manchester City's 17 year old academy talent, Callum Doyle. The youngster has impressed at centre half for City's youth sides and has caught the eye of Lee Johnson.

Doyle was almost ever present for both Man City's under 18 and under 23 sides as they managed to win both divisions, the Premier League 2 and Under-18 Premier League. He has played limited senior football, although he did star in Manchester City Under 23s' games against Lincoln City and Tranmere Rovers in the Papa John's Trophy.

Manchester City's academy page says that he, "Signed for City in 2014 and has made huge progress in his time with the club, developing into a fine defender. A Manchester City scholar in 2020, Callum will be part of the Under-18s squad in 2020/21."

Local press highly rate the young English centre half, singling him out for an 'impressive' performance as City's under-23s lost 1-0 to Everton in the FA Youth Cup, "Doyle was able to keep Everton’s towering forwards Tom Cannon and Tyler Onyango largely quiet, it was his play on the ball that really caught the eye. Nearly every City move started with the defender either carrying the ball into midfield or clipping inch-perfect cross-field balls to the winger on the opposite flank. It cut an impressive impersonation of Ruben Dias and showed that it isn’t just attacking starlets that the academy is producing."
