TRANSFER ROUNDUP

Updated: Jul 12, 2023

The season may be over but the work hasn’t stopped on Wearside, Sunderland have already begun making plans for the upcoming campaign as we look to replace loanees and players who could be tempted with a Premier League move.

SAFC MAKE MICHUT ANNOUNCEMENT

Today the club confirmed the rumours that we will not be opting to activate the release clause in Edouard Michut’s loan deal with PSG. To me this would indicate that the Jobe Bellingham deal is all wrapped up and we are just waiting to announce it. But it is a bit of a shame, he would have no doubt made us a profit, but this means that we can allocate more money towards some positions that need more recruitment, which is pretty much anywhere other than midfield now!

There are several possibilities as to why a permanent deal might not have happened too, some people have said he wants to fight for his spot at PSG, some have said he might have turned us down with clubs such as Fulham interested in him too. In the end it doesn’t change the outcome, he won’t be in a Sunderland shirt that we know, and we can now move on and wish him well.

Sporting Director Kristjaan Speakman said: “Edouard played a prominent role throughout his loan spell at the Stadium of Light and we thank him for his contribution. He is highly respected by all at Sunderland AFC but following a period of dialogue with the player and his representatives, all parties mutually agreed it was best to pursue other opportunities at this moment in time. We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Edou and wish him well for the future.”

PREMIER LEAGUE CLUBS KEEP AN EYE ON US

We knew this time would come if we had an impressive season as the Premier League clubs have been watching us all season. Rumours have already started going round of a potential Dan Neil, Jack Clarke, Anthony Patterson and Patrick Roberts departure. Surely if any of them were to leave, we’d demand a hefty amount of money, but to be honest, for all those mentioned, it could be wise to spend another year in the Championship. And for Dan Neil and Anthony Patterson, they could be more tempted to stay at home on Wearside, as Dan has said previously he wants to get us back in the Premier League.

DION SANDERSON PUT UP FOR SALE?

Once again it looks like Wolves will be putting former SAFC loanee Dion Sanderson up for sale in the upcoming transfer window. He spent last season on loan with Birmingham and as per we have been mentioned as a potential destination for the 23 year old. Should we go for him?
