TRANSFER DEADLINE DAY ROUND UP

Updated: Jul 19, 2023

Here’s a round up of Transfer Deadline Day at Sunderland AFC

9pm: Sunderland completed the signing of Antoine Semenyo. The Bristol City forward joins on loan until the end of the season. Semenyo said: “It’s been a long wait to get the deal done, but it’s finally signed and I’ve joined a great club. It’s got so much history and I’ve heard so many great things about it from lots of people, so I’m proud to be a part of that. I’m looking forward to working with the manager because I want to improve every day. I can’t wait to get started.”

SAFC manager Phil Parkinson added: “I’m pleased we have been able to bring Antoine to the club. He’s got pace and power which are qualities we highlighted and wanted to add to the squad. We look forward to working with him and he goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s game at Portsmouth.”

8.30pm: Marc McNulty has left SAFC and hooked up with our old boss, Jack Ross, at Hibs

6pm: Wales international Declan John joins on loan until the end of the season. The 24 year old left wing back said: “I’m delighted to get the deal done and to have joined a club of such stature. Sunderland has a rich history and the fan base speaks for itself. When a club like this comes calling, you don’t say no. I’m looking forward to working under the manager and I believe it’s a system that will suit me down to the ground. I want to play as many games as possible and help the club have a successful season.”

Phil Parkinson said: “I’m pleased to welcome Declan to the club. He’s another good addition to the squad and provides added depth in an area of the pitch we have been working to strengthen. Unfortunately, he’s unavailable this weekend, but we look forward to him joining the squad next week.”

1am: Aiden McGeady has completed a loan move to Charlton Athletic.

In other news, Phil Parkinson has been previewing this weekend’s trip to Fratton Park. “We wanted the lads to enjoy the win on Wednesday and the recent run they have been on. It was a hard slog at Tranmere, but the lads are on a high in the dressing room because they know what they had to do there to get the win. It’s always hard to go to a place like Prenton Park, tell people what we need and how we are going to win and then implementing it. We have had a quick turnaround for the Portsmouth game, and it’s been a case of resting up and getting ready for what is a tough game at the weekend, but one we are really looking forward to.”
