TONY MOWBRAY REACTS TO LEICESTER DEFEAT

Tony Mowbray was talking to the media after our defeat to Leicester last night. The gaffer was talking about us deserving something from the game, our lack of cutting edge in the final third, Anthony Patterson’s great performance and the poor quality of officiating.

DESERVED SOMETHING

“I think so, I think we deserve something from the game, I think the identity of the team is there. I just said there you can’t keep shooting over the bar you have to hit the target, you have to make the keeper work. We’ve lost some goals this year from really poorly struck shots that ricochet of people’s knees and take the goalie the wrong way and stuff like that, you have to shoot low, I’ve always said to players shoot low, you’re not scoring top corner every time, very rare, you get one a season and we kept putting it over the bar but I thought we competed really well, they’re undoubtedly a good team with good individuals who can hurt you but I thought generally, from the goalkeeper right to the top end of the pitch I thought we competed well and gave a good account of ourselves.”

SHOULD HAVE SCORED

“Lack of experience probably, young footballers learning their trade as they go along and haven’t played many games in the Championship some of them and it’ll be a good test for them, its good to come here, I said before the game we have to challenge ourselves, test ourselves and be brave and play how we want to play the game and I think we did that, took it to them and listen, we had some chances to score, we should have scored and we didn’t, we have to accept that.”

PENALTY?

“I don’t know you’ll know better than me, you’ll have seen the feedback and everything, I don’t know, listen I don’t want to talk about officials anymore I’ve finished this season, I’ve had two bookings, I see every week, you know the crowd here let everybody know what they thought of the official. I just get frustrated when a game like that, the same fourth official put thirteen minutes up in our opening day against Ipswich and I don’t know how many subs went on today, nine, ten? How many times the physios on the pitch, head injuries and he puts five minutes up I find it ridiculous but you cant argue with them, you just have to accept it and get on but its modern day football I think.”

PATTO

“Generally we have been in every game, its really frustrating we didn’t score tonight ourselves, Patto has been, since the day I walked in the building, Patterson’s a really, really top goalkeeper and he’s got an amazing mentality for a goalkeeper, he’s so calm and quiet but stable about what he does. Listen you come to Leicester away you’re going to make saves, you’ve got to make saves otherwise you’re going to get well beat like everybody else seems to but overall I thought the identity of how we played, I think the youthfulness, the energy, the legs, general picking the right pass a lot of the time but there’s still flaws and we are a work in progress and we’ve always said that this is a rally young team that’s inexperienced but its good to come to places like this and test yourselves against them and that’s what we did.”
