Following the impressive 2-1 victory at home against Wigan Tony Mowbray spoke about how we reacted to going one down, the Gooch injury and how big of an impact the returning Dennis Cirkin made.
DELIGHTED
“Delighted for them, delighted for the supporters. It was important to give it everything we had today and we have every game and I look at the results of teams that came recently, Blackpool had a really good result today, Preston went to Norwich and won the game. Every game is tough, today was tough against a team with the best away record in the league, they've won four games away from home already. It was a tough fixture for us but one I think we wholeheartedly deserved to win.”
JOB DONE
“I’d like to thank the fans for sticking with the team with a difficult first half. The game was so slow, kept stopping and people going down injured and taking a long time on long throws, cleaning balls and wiping balls and we got there in the end and it makes it all worthwhile. Amazing effort from the team, great intensity second half and got the job done.”
CIRKIN
“A big player and he's had some concerns cause he saw Aji doing so well in his position I just feel we need the right personalities in the team so we shifted the formation a little bit and then an injury at half time almost forced the change of formation again but Aji centre back Dennis at left back looks pretty strong and powerful to me so that's the way we went and Dennis got himself in the box and scored an amazing goal and he assisted the first one.”
AMAD
“I think that's the best we've seen of him, listen, he's got flashes, he's always going to have flashes. He's a wonderful footballer on the training ground. He's so sharp and quick and clever with the ball he just has to add the end product for me. He hears this every day in his ear so I'm sure he knows but the work ethic was good today, the physicality that he brought was good today and I was pleased for him.”
GOOCH INJURY
“Well we'll have to wait and see, he’ll probably be getting a scan and let’s hope it’s just a bruise. He got trod on really, it was from a jump, an aerial thing and he came down and landed on his foot with the studs. Probably bruising, I hope that's all it is and it settles down quickly but we'll have to wait and see but as you saw today it gave opportunities to somebody else and that person grabbed their opportunity with both hands.”
REACT
“On any given day you can be on the wrong end of a thumping really, the game runs away from you. As a manger the way I generally tend to manage is if we go behind I'll make attacking substitutions and sometimes if you get the balance wrong you can lose two, three, four nil because you've got too many strikers on the pitch and when that happens you have to show personality and character to understand why that happened and be ready to go again. I've got every faith in this group of players that they've got a strong mentality, they work hard for each other, care about each other and we look forward to the next game.”
