TM ON ALESE

The latest season-ending injury in our squad has hit Aji Alese, who now faces the rest of the campaign on the sidelines with a thigh injury. Mowbray discussed the hole his injury leaves in the squad.

DISAPPOINTING

“Alese’s injury is really disappointing for him and us, Dennis is still not ready. But like all football clubs we have to get on with it, although it does feel like we’ve been hit pretty hard with injuries.”

TOUGH LUCK

“Towards the back end of January, I remember thinking we would have a brilliant second half of the season. I thought everyone would be available and fit, so we would only get stronger. But, it hasn’t been the case, so there is a frustration attached to it, and we’ve had to go to the well with the same players most of the time. It’s been difficult, but the group deserves huge credit. We are going through a sticky spell at the moment, but we’ve got an opportunity to try and come out on the other end. So, we should look forward to these next four fixtures against teams in the top six because it will help us see where we are. Obviously, we are a long way from being able to field our strongest group, but we will attack these games and be positive. Then we will see what comes of it.”

BIG BLOW

“Aji Alese was a great signing from our recruitment team, and he brings versatility to our squad. He is able to play centre back, and he is athletic enough to play full back. He has shown that he can push higher up the pitch, get in at the back stick, and be a threat to the opposition. His injury is going to be a blow for us, but we have to deal with it and keep going. It’s disappointing for him, he’s had a great breakthrough season, but it looks as if his season is finished.”
