SAFC V PNE PREVIEW

Last weekend wasn’t the start we wanted, but let’s hope that we can turn things around at Deepdale…

PRESTON

Ryan Lowe’s side began the season with a 1-1 draw against Bristol City. New man Will Keane opened his account with a 86th minute equaliser. The Lilywhites are as mid-table as they come and have developed a reputation for being the side that does nothing exciting. A sad downfall for the original Invincibles, who were once the best team in the country.

Just like Sunderland, PNE were knocked out of the Carabao cup by League Two opposition earlier this week. Salford beat them 4-2 on penalties.

SUNDERLAND

It hasn’t been a great start to the new campaign here on Wearside. An opening day defeat to Ipswich was followed by a defeat to Crewe in the EFL cup. Tony Mowbray needs attacking reinforcements and he has made that very clear in his interviews. To be honest, we played well for the last half an hour on Sunday, but we shouldn’t need to wait until we are 2-0 down with ten men to start playing some good stuff.

Hopefully, things can change this weekend and the Lads can pick up a much needed win. A goal would really benefit Hemir, I still believe in him because he showed great goal scoring form in pre-season. There are still so many games to play, so I’m confident that we can turn things around. Trai Hume has served his suspension against Crewe and will be available for selection, a welcome boost in defence.

MY PREDICTION

I’m going with a narrow 1-0 win to the Lads. Unlike the end of last season, Preston actually have something to fight for. But, I’m confident that we can get the win. Last season our away form was great and on paper we have a better team than Preston. Things could get ugly and we might need to show some defensive resilience to come away with all three points. Hemir is my goal scorer. We need to get behind the team because when they get going we play some good football.
