PLAYER RATINGS VS SHEFF WED

Sunderland went top of the table with a five-star performance against Sheffield Wednesday. Here's how the lads rated out of ten...

RON-THORBEN HOFFMANN 8/10: Made a number of crucial stops in the first half- was a passenger in the second half as Sunderland cruised.

BAILEY WRIGHT: 8/10: Another commanding performance on the right. Great in possession and even looked to get forward, too!

TOM FLANAGAN 9/10: Won everything in the air and didn't allow Sheffield's attackers a sniff tonight.

CALLUM DOYLE 9/10: Like Wright, a great game for the youngster in terms of passing and distribution from the back. Showed great maturity for his age and capped off a good performance with a headed goal.

LEON DAJAKU 8/10: Always looking to drive forward and is such a fun player to watch. Comfortable with both feet which makes him a real asset out wide.

DAN NEIL 8/10: Rarely pushed forward today, but pressed well and protected the defence throughout. Kept Barry Bannan quiet all game, which isn't the easiest task.

CORRY EVANS 8/10: Another calm head in midfield, recycling the ball extremely well. Never seemed to give the ball away once.

LYNDEN GOOCH 6/10: Had a poor first half, almost gifting Wednesday a goal with a mistimed clearance. Grew in confidence as the game went on but wasn't at his most influential today.

ELLIOT EMBLETON 8/10: Plenty of industry in midfield, but showed great creativity when on the ball too. Always looking to push forward and came close with a few long-rangers.

ALEX PRITCHARD 9/10: Created the second goal out of pretty much nothing, continuing his fine form in red and white. Some well-worked set pieces from Pritchard, who was at the centre of everything we did.

ROSS STEWART 10/10: The hat trick hero had one of his best games for Sunderland, scoring three times with three great finishes. Held the ball up well and pressed at the right times, never giving Wednesday's defence a moment's peace.

SUBS

DENNIS CIRKIN 6/10: Tidy in possession as he continues his injury recovery, but never got out of second gear.

BENJI KIMIOKA 7/10: Plenty of energy as Benji was clearly desperate to make an impact, scoring a well-taken fifth and he could have had another one!

FREDERIK ALVES 6/10: Nice to see the West Ham loanee back in the team, with a cameo in midfield.
