PLAYER RATINGS VS LUTON

Sunderland have an advantage going into the second leg of the play-offs, after a brilliant win at the Stadium of Light. Here's how the Lads rated out of ten...

ANTHONY PATTERSON 7/10:

Struggled early on as Luton doubled up on him from set pieces, but safe hands throughout and didn't have any real saves to make.

LYNDEN GOOCH 7/10:

Defensively solid throughout even if he didn't venture forward too much. He's now a reliable Championship defender!

TRAI HUME 8/10:

Dealt with Luton's physicality really well. Did well to get across his man for a great headed goal.

LUKE O'NIEN 7/10:

Led the makeshift defence professionally. Wasn't involved in much of the action as Luton struggled to create many attacks.

DAN NEIL 7/10:

Limited by a daft early booking, but did the simple stuff well and helped us retain possession as the game wore on.

PIERRE EKWAH 8/10:

Excellent both on and off the ball. Great footwork for a man of his size, and constantly pressured Luton's midfield.

PATRICK ROBERTS 7/10:

Electric at times, even if it wasn't too consistent. Linked up well with Amad and Gelhardt as always and another player who just never stopped running.

AMAD DIALLO 7/10:

Actually had a pretty quiet game until he scored an absolute worldie. Luton had two or three men marking him at all times, but he came up with the goods once again when required!

ALEX PRITCHARD 7/10:

Buzzed around the pitch and linked the play well. Smart thinking to lay the ball off to Amad and was generally just intelligent on the ball throughout.

JACK CLARKE 7/10:

Struggled to beat his man for a long time, but finally managed to get the beating of Drameh when he produced a brilliant cross for Hume's goal.

JOE GELHARDT 7/10:

Worked his socks off against a physical backline, and actually managed to hold the ball up well at times. Linked the play with the likes of Roberts and Clarke, but perhaps could have had one himself had his reactions been a bit quicker.

SUBS

NIALL HUGGINS 6/10:

Good to see him back in action and looked comfortable in possession. Won a couple of headers and looked keen to push forward.

ABDOULLAH BA 6/10:

Provided more energy later on as we saw out the win.
