PLAYER RATINGS VS GILLINGHAM

Sunderland left it late, but kept their play-off hopes alive with a Nathan Broadhead goal in injury time. Here's how the lads rated out of ten...

ANTHONY PATTERSON 6/10: I know he's had a few quiet games since coming into the side, but this is probably the least he's ever had to do in a game of football. Some nice time-wasting tactics after the goal!

CARL WINCHESTER 5/10: Sloppy in possession and didn't really link up with Roberts in attack. Looked a liability in defence, and there was one scary moment where it looked like he was going to give away a penalty...

BAILEY WRIGHT 6/10: Solid defensively and organised the backline well.

DANNY BATTH 7/10: Didn't give their target man Oliver a sniff all game, won everything in the air. Kept things simple in possession.

DENNIS CIRKIN 7/10: Helped Jack Clarke out on the left hand side. Took a booking for the team as we were hit on the counter attack, and some very mature defending today.

CORRY EVANS 5/10: Lots of negative passing, backwards and sideways for most of the game. Blazed a golden opportunity over the bar, but luckily it didn't cost us the three points...

LUKE O'NIEN 6/10: Hit the bar with an improvised header, which could have gone in on another day. Put himself about, and offered plenty of physicality in midfield without showing any great quality on the ball.

PATRICK ROBERTS 8/10: Our most creative player, and looked like creating something every time he got the ball. It didn't equate to a goal or assist today, but Roberts looks like a player who is playing in a league below his level.

ALEX PRITCHARD 7/10: Frustrated by Gillingham's physicality, but still a great creative outlet. Worked hard as always, and looked refreshed and back to full fitness after the international break.

JACK CLARKE 5/10: Saw a lot of the ball but didn't do a lot with it. Far too reluctant to go on the outside and use his left foot, cutting inside every time. If he had a bit of variety to his game he'd be ten times more dangerous.

ROSS STEWART 5/10: Never had a sniff of goal other than one big chance which he squandered. Came up against three massive centre halves whose only objective was to keep Ross Stewart quiet- which they did.

SUBS

LYNDEN GOOCH 6/10: Did okay at right back in place of Carl Winchester.

ELLIOT EMBLETON 7/10: Came on and barely touched the ball, but set up Broadhead with a cross on a silver platter.

NATHAN BROADHEAD 8/10: Great to see Broadhead back on the pitch. Always looking to stretch the defence and make something happen. Won the three points with a well-taken header.
