PLAYER RATINGS V WYCOMBE

Updated: Sep 11, 2021

Sunderland won comfortably against Gareth Ainsworth's side, with a Ross Stewart brace and a screamer from Elliot Embleton bringing the three points back to Wearside. Here's how the lads rated out of ten...

ANTHONY PATTERSON (6/10): Didn’t have a lot to do but was pretty steady, and came to collect the ball well later on. Could improve on his communication as there were a few balls that caused a bit of panic, and needs to sort his kicking out.

CARL WINCHESTER (7/10): Solid again at right back, looking like a natural. The Northern Irishman was strong in the tackle and got forward well, testing the keeper in the second half with a low powerful shot.

TOM FLANAGAN (8/10): Physically dominant and produced some good diagonal balls forward. Dealt with Vokes’ physicality well, and continues his outstanding if underrated start to the season.

CALLUM DOYLE (6/10): Good on the ball and got forward at times to support McGeady. Put a few decent balls into the box that came to nothing. Looked assured defensively, particularly in the first half.

DENNIS CIRKIN (7/10): Good on the ball and got forward at times to support McGeady. Put a few decent balls into the box that came to nothing. Looked assured defensively, particularly in the first half.

LUKE O'NIEN (8/10): Plenty of energy and tenacity as always from Luke. Provided good defensive cover for Neil to push forward, and won the ball back a number of times with some strong tackling.

DAN NEIL (8/10): Really calm in possession and always looking to move the ball forward. Assisted our third goal with immaculate timing to release Ross Stewart on the counter.

ELLIOT EMBLETON (9/10): Scored a beautiful goal and was instrumental in most of our attacks. Put in a great cross for the opener and always looked like creating.

LYNDEN GOOCH (6/10): Worked hard for the team and linked up well with Winchester at times. However, he still needs to release the ball quicker to improve his end product.

ROSS STEWART (9/10): Two great goals from the Scottish striker, who leapt like a salmon to score the first. Led the line well all game, and his hold up play was brilliant. Took his final goal well to put Wycombe out of their misery.

AIDEN MCGEADY (6/10): Still not back to his best this season, trying too much in his own half. Involved more in the second half and looked more dangerous, but perhaps age is catching up with the winger.

SUBS

AIDEN O'BRIEN (6/10): Some good pressing late in the game

BAILEY WRIGHT (6/10): Couldn't really get involved as he was brought on to see out the game.

ALEX PRITCHARD (6/10): See above.
