Sunderland ended the season proper with a poor performance against Northampton, here’s the marks out of ten…
Lee Burge (6/10): Another quiet afternoon for our goalkeeper. Had very little to do, but conceded an extremely unlucky goal.
Conor McLaughlin (6/10): Solid in defence and calm in possession.
Bailey Wright (6/10): Looked assured and dealt with Danny Rose quite easily.
Luke O’Nien (6/10): A real mixed back from O’Nien. Had some good all-action moments where he swept up the play, but also lucky not to have been booked for an early elbow and on another day could have been sent off.
Denver Hume (6/10): Couldn’t keep up with Mark Marshall in our half as he was targeted on the counterattack, but did well bombing forward.
Max Power (7/10): Led the press well and kept possession to great effect. We missed his urgency after he was subbed.
Josh Scowen (7/10): Showed some neat touches and played with that usual tenacity which linked well with Power’s energy.
Jack Diamond (6/10): Sunderland’s brightest attacker in the first half, he showed good dribbling skills and pressed throughout.
Lynden Gooch (5/10): Frustrated at times and wasn’t able to have the same impact as recent games.
Jordan Jones (6/10): Like Gooch, Jones was frustrating and didn’t hit the heights of some performances. Produced one moment of quality, hitting the post to create the equaliser, but too often fails to pass to a team mate.
Charlie Wyke (6/10): Didn’t have a sniff of goal and looked rusty.
Subs:
Aiden McGeady (5/10): Gave the ball away too much and like a lot of attackers, looked frustrated with Northampton’s stubborn defence.
Chris Maguire (6/10): Didn’t create a lot but helped push forward and always looking to attack.
Grant Leadbitter (5/10): Unlucky to be the player who deflected the free kick which gave Northampton the win.
Carl Winchester (6/10): Added a pair of fresh legs and was sharp enough to follow through Jones’ shot, grabbing an easy goal late on.
Aiden O’Brien (6/10): Another attacking option as we threw bodies forward.
