PLAYER RATINGS V ACCRINGTON

The player ratings for Sunderland's 2-1 home win against Accrington Stanley which sees the Lads retain top spot in League 1.

RON-THORBERT HOFFMAN (5/10)

Didn’t have a great deal to do on his debut but couldn’t keep a clean sheet, he didn’t command his box well in the first half but grew into the game, his distribution could’ve been a bit better but overall an average performance.

CARL WINCHESTER (8/10)

Played an absolute blinder, good defensively and was good going forward, a quality finish for the winner. He’s certainly finding his feet in a position which isn’t his natural starting place.

TOM FLANAGAN (7/10)

Played a solid game and held his ground well in a pretty physical game, he looks a completely different player this season.

CALLUM DOYLE (7/10)

Still cannot believe the lad is the age he is! He’s looking a pretty assured centre half, had a quality game today but was caught out a couple of times and made a few minor errors.

DENNIS CIRKIN (8/10)

Another quality young player who’s really finding his feet, he’s looking a top quality left back in this division, good going forward and solid defensively. Made a crucial block to prevent an Accrington equaliser.

LUKE O’NIEN (8/10)

As usual, full of energy and all over the pitch but didn’t have a huge impact on the game but as ever someone who can be relied upon and held his own in the midfield in what was a pretty physical game.

ELLIOTT EMBLETON (7/10)

Great to see an academy graduate get so much game time and he had a top game today as well, could’ve quite easily have made it three this afternoon and probably should have.

DAN NEIL (9/10)

Another one of our own had a top quality game today and scored an absolute peach, done well to bring down the ball and calmly took his shot to bend it in to put us in front.

LYNDEN GOOCH (6/10)

Played on the left rather than the right wing where he’s played most of his minutes in a Sunderland shirt, didn’t do terrible but didn’t really have an impact on the game either.

AIDEN McGEADY (6/10)

An uncharacteristically enthusiastic performance in the first half from the Irishman but he never really made his mark on the game, he caused a few problems for the Accrington back line but not too much to change the game.

ROSS STEWART (7/10)

Very good hold up play from the big man, could’ve also made it 3-1 when he was played through on goal but failed to round the Stanley keeper. Always liable to cause problems for any opposition back line he was certainly a nuisance.

SUBS:

ALEX PRITCHARD (6/10)

Didn't really do much when he did come on, a few darting runs and link up play but could've been better, been fairly disappointing since arriving if we're being honest.

BAILEY WRIGHT (5/10)

Didn't really have to do much when he did come on!
