PATTO PRE GILLS

Anthony Patterson has reflected on an important loan move to Notts County, and spoke about the pride of playing in goal for his boyhood club Sunderland...

BACK IN ACTION

“Obviously the lads have been in training over the international break, and we’re all looking forward to the game and getting back out there at the Stadium of Light.”

STANDARDS

“The gaffer gives us a couple of days off but when we’re in, we work hard and intense, we like to keep the standards nice and high.”

LOVING IT

“I’m loving it. As a young player it’s what you want to do. You want to play games at first team level and thankfully I’ve been able to do that this season.”

GAME TIME

“I just wanted to keep playing, keep progressing and building up game by game. It wasn’t looked into much further than that. It was just a case of getting the games in.”

CONFIDENCE

“It gave me great confidence knowing the manager’s put his faith in me and I want to repay that faith back to him and keep performing well.”

CLEAN SHEETS

“That’s what you aim to do as a goalkeeper, keep clean sheet and hopefully that can continue now for the remainder of the season.”

LOAN AT NOTTS COUNTY

“It was massive for me because obviously I’ve played a lot of Under-23 games, but the step up in quality, physicality and everything at that level helped me massively. I think you’ve seen that since I’ve come back- I think I’ve grown and progressed well.”

FANS

“There’s no better feeling than walking out of the tunnel before the game and just hearing the fans roar and cheer. It gives me goosebumps. I’ve been here since I was 10 years old and I never really thought about ever being at the stadium, playing in front of that many people. It’s a proud moment for me and my family and I hope that can continue.”

FAMILY

“They’ll be honest with me, they know I can take the criticism and it’ll help me. They’re always at the games and I’ll go and speak to them in the players’ lounge after the games.”

MOMENTUM

“The group is feeling confident, we’re training well. We just need to keep building and keep the momentum going for the remaining seven games. I’m sure by the end of the season we’ll be in the play-off spots.”

PROMOTION

“It’ll be massive for me being a Sunderland fan, I want to see the club back in the Championship. To be a part of that would be massive and it would be an amazing feeling really.”
