PATTO AWARD WINNER

Last night Anthony Patterson picked up the North East Football Writers’ Association Young Player Of The Year award for 2022 for his impressive 12 months that has led him to becoming our number 1.

Tony Mowbray has also won this award before, and he praised the calmness and maturity of Patto.

WONDERFUL ACCOLADE

“I think it is a wonderful accolade for him. When I see some of the names that have won the Young Player of the Year award in the North-East over the years, it’s amazing to be in that company.”

JOINING A GOOD LIST

“I look and see myself in 1988 winning the main award here but Kevin Keegan won it a couple of years before. Peter Beardsley, Paul Gascoigne and all of these amazing players, Bryan Pop Robson who I would have played against towards the end of his career.”

BIG FUTURE

“It’s amazing to be here on this night. It has been going a long time. For Anthony, it’s lovely for him to be recognised and have all of his family here and football people around. It is hugely warranted. I’ve only known the kid since I got into the club six months ago. He is self-assured, calm, brilliant personality for a goalkeeper because he never gets flustered about anything. I think he has got a huge future.”

CALM KID

“I can’t talk highly enough about his character and his personality. No ego, no bad temperament, no outbursts. He is a very calm kid who is good at his job which is keeping the ball out of the net.”
