OUT OF TEN: SWANSEA CITY

Sunderland succumbed to a poor 2-1 defeat at home to Swansea and therefore no one who started has been given higher than a six.

Anthony Patterson 6: Pulled off some good saves when he was needed, it definitely would have been a lot worse without him. Came up for two corners in the end, he was unlucky to not score from the second one and it’s a shame he was reluctant to shoot for the first one because he was in a good position. He is still a goalkeeper though so we’ll let him off.

Trai Hume 6: Like most of our defensive players, struggled to get to grips with the Swansea attack for the first 45 but had a much improved second half which bumps him up from a four to a six.

Jenson Seelt 4: Not the most assured performance in the world, epitomised by giving the ball away in the second half to almost allow a Swansea goal.

Luke O’Nien 5: About the same level as Seelt but he scored which gives him an extra mark.

Leo Hjelde 3: Ronald Pereira was on his side of the pitch and obviously he didn’t do that much to stop him.

Callum Styles 5: Also not that great in preventing their goalscorer. He was slightly better when he was pushed up the pitch and it was his debut so I’ve given him some leeway with his rating.

Dan Neil 5: A pretty below average performance from Neil, unusual for him then. His long balls and dribbling left a lot to be desired throughout.

Pierre Ekwah 6: Better than Neil and got the assist for the goal with a well-taken free kick so at least he came out of the game with something.

Jobe Bellingham 4: Oftentimes went backwards instead of forwards which was highly frustrating, especially when we were two goals down, although saying that he wasn’t great when he did try and get it up the pitch. A game on the bench would do him the world of good.

Nazariy Rusyn 6: A lot of our fans questioned why he was brought off and he was definitely a bright spark in a rather tame attack today. Made some good runs that went unnoticed (typical).

Romaine Mundle 6: Had a good go when he came on, if the rest of the team had his desire maybe we wouldn’t have been two goals down. Maybe start him next game?

Luis Hemir 7: Please give this man a go in the starting XI. One moment in particular where he was under a lot of pressure on the edge of the box and dropped deep to create space for the rest of our attack showcased his potential.

Chris Rigg 7: He was very good when he came off, some great passes and dropped back a few times to help the defence. Fantastic sliding challenge at one point. He’s going to be some player.

Adil Aouchiche 5: Gets this rating because he wasn't on the pitch long enough to warrant anything higher or lower.
