Ahead of the trip to Wembley at the weekend, Alex Neil spoke to the media about the challenges that come with facing Gareth Ainsworth’s Wycombe.
DANGEROUS
“I think they’re a tough team to beat, they’ve got a great habit at being in games all the time they don’t necessarily need to play well to win. I think they’re dangerous from the first minute to the last minute, and they’re not the type of team to get to caught up in the process and how you play and all that sort of stuff,”
FOCUSED
“They want to be as effective as they possibly can, and them type of teams are always dangerous, so sometimes it can lull you into a false sense of thinking you’re doing well by controlling the ball and maybe having a few chances and the next minute they hit you with a sucker punch. So, we know we’re going to have to be focused, we know what’s coming our way.”
EFFORT & AGGRESSION
“Gareth and their players have done a great job getting to the final and having an opportunity to get them promoted, so we know how much they are going to put into it. We’ve got to match that effort, aggression and everything that comes with playing Wycombe we need to match and then we need to hope we’ve got enough quality to win.”
CONTROL
“It’s very rare nowadays you get somebody that can really imprint themselves and their ID on a club. Obviously, you need to earn a right to do that, Gareth has earned that right by making them successful and then what happens is when there’s complete trust there between the owners, between the fans, between the club and Gareth himself, then they hand control over to him.”
MORE THAN CAPABLE
“If you wanted to talk where the teams have been and where they haven’t been then just look at the recent history, they were in the championship last year, so what that tells you is they’ve been prepped, they’ve been ready to play championship football, I think they came down the last day of the season, so that’s all we need to know is the fact that they are more than capable and they’ll give it everything they’ve got to get there.”
