NEIL POST SHEFF WED

Alex Neil was full of smiles as he answered questions following our inspiring late win to send us to Wembley for the Play-off final on the 21st of May.

BIG OPPORTUNITY

“Listen, what we've done is we gave ourselves an opportunity now. It was a big game, difficult game. We switched off once in the match and it cost us a goal and that was disappointing because I thought throughout the game we were excellent.”

BELIEF

“We controlled spells of the game we had some good opportunities from good combinations, it's the first time I haven't made a change, I've made quite a few changes early doors but I believe so much in how we we’re playing and the personnel on the pitch to win this specific match that I feel as if I was going to change it I would have diluted what we were trying to do, thankfully that belief paid off, the lads delivered and we've got a chance to go to Wembley.”

TERRIFIC REACTION

“I think it's a sentiment of the game, understanding what the teams are capable of, looking at if they are fatiguing or not and I think it's easy if you go behind to then change things because everybody thinks that's a big problem and I didn't necessarily didn't think it was. I didn't think we deserved it to go against us but it's how we reacted to it. I think the reaction was terrific.”

STOPPAGE TIME

“I didn't really take it into account, I think the fourth official said it would be 10 minutes so I was like ‘ok well we're gonna go into extra time anyways’. Getting the goal in that period was great, I thought we did carry a threat, certainly in transition in the game. I thought Patrick deserved his goal. I thought he was terrific tonight.”

GOOD BUNCH

“I think that I've got complete belief in the squad of players that I've got and I'm hoping that they've got complete belief in the messages that I'm giving them and it makes for a really good combination if that's the case and what I have got is a squad that is really selfless. They understand if I need to drop them out and put another player in for a specific match that it's not done on a whim, we do a lot of working behind the scenes to make sure we're prepped for each game and the lads delivered for us.”

C’MON NOW

“Too big a job for me? No. I wouldn't be here if I thought it was too big of a job.”

IMPROVEMENTS

“The problem you've got when you go to any club is you don't know how good or bad things are behind the scenes but when I walked in they weren't in a bad position in the league, there were a few variables that we had try and improve from my point of view and I feel like we've done that and everyone's in a better place, certainly results on the pitch and things like that. Really pleased.”

OPTIMISTIC FANS

“Well I don't think our fans will think that to start with. I think that the belief that they've got in the team, the run that we've been on, the fact that we keep coming back and scoring late goals, there's sort of a determination for this group. I don't think our fans will think that one bit. I think the fans start to believe in this team and they believe that we'll go to Wembley and do everything we possibly can to win the game and I’m confident they'll be confident, our fans will be confident and we’ll need to deliver, Wycombe are a difficult team. I watched them last night. They dig, they sort of grind, they do everything they can to get the result and we're going to have to do likewise.”

REST AND RECOVER

“I want to rest go home see my family see my kids, then in a couple of days time ill come into work and get started.”
