NEIL ON PROMOTION

Alex Neil was full of praise for everyone connected with Sunderland AFC after the Lads finally escaped League One on Saturday...

SATISFIED

"It's the best feeling you can probably imagine, because we've done it for everyone who's suffered for the last four or five seasons. Everybody loves a fallen giant, and to kick them when they're down, and what we've managed to do today for the fans, the players, the staff and everybody connected with the club, we've got across the line and done the job. So that feeling of satisfaction and contentment for me, to make sure I didn't let anyone down, I'm so pleased."

SPECIAL

"We deserved to win the game. Wycombe to be fair did throw everything at us. What I didn't want to do, I was so conscious in the fact I didn't want to disappoint (the fans). That's the most pleasing thing for me. To be at a club like this with so many backers and fans, what it means to everybody, it's a special moment."

EMBO/CLARKE

"It was a tough decision. Jack Clarke's been great for us but I just felt that the way the game was going to plan out, I'd watched the two games previously, Embo was brilliant against Wycombe on two occasions. I just had a feeling he was going to do something for us, so for it to work out the way it did, I was pleased for him, the group and everybody. Jack Clarke certainly played his part as well when he came on. Stretching them, transitions and he could have scored as well. So yeah, it worked out really well."

COLLECTIVE

"I've said it before, you don't win anything yourself. Whether it's a manager, a player, the fans, the staff or whoever. You need a collective effort and at the moment, this club feels united. I'm so grateful that of the backing the fans have given us, how much the players have worked so hard to get where they are, and this is massive so I'm delighted."
