NEIL: LACK OF QUALITY

Alex Neil was frustrated with his Sunderland team, who yet again failed to earn three points against Burton Albion...

MEDICAL EMERGENCY

"Of course we wish them all the best and really hope that they recover. I think it's quite stressful for everybody when you see that type of thing. There's nothing worse than seeing one of your own in a bad way so we really hope things improve and they come through it."

FRUSTRATED

"I don't want to repeat myself from Saturday but certainly frustration. I thought we had good moments in the game, the first 30 minutes our balance was good and we got into good areas. I just thought we lacked quality at times. Our quality of crosses and through balls let us down on occasions. The biggest concern for me is a lack of understanding of how to stop a counter, and at the moment, the game on Saturday and the game tonight was very similar in that sense."

VULNERABLE

"We looked at our most vulnerable when we had the ball in the final third and we were putting crosses in, and they look like they're going to counter and hurt us. So that's something that certainly needs improving. I tried to fix it tonight by putting more numbers in there, going from a back four to a back three, but it's certainly something that I need to focus on and fix. To be honest I was hoping that would have happened tonight with that change but it didn't."

NO QUALITY

"Listen there wasn't a lack of effort, there was a lack of quality. It really is as simple as that. What we don't do is we don't manage games well enough and the first goal is symptomatic of that. We get the ball, we punt it up when we don't need to. I think our back five is actually behind the goalie as the ball goes forward. The pitch is too stretched, I think they outnumber us five vs three in their half, so there's no need for us to rush that situation and within two touches we dive out, they have a shot at goal and the next minute we're one down. When that happens here, naturally the opponent are going to sit deep and narrow and we need to work outside them and put quality crosses in, which we didn't until Alex digs one out in the end for us and we manage to salvage a point. But I can assure you no one is happy with that, and we've obviously had a good chat with the players in terms of the things we need to do better."

WIGAN

"I'm frustrated and disappointed tonight so we'll get to work on that one (Wigan) tomorrow. I'll need to sleep on that one."
