NECTAR POST BIRMINGHAM

Nectarios Triantis was all smiles after making his first Sunderland start against Birmingham, and is claiming his goal despite it being chalked down as an own goal!

DEBUT AND GOAL

“It’s just a dream come true to be honest, to have my first start for this club and to nick a goal - which I’m claiming as my goal! Just overall the fans are fantastic and it’s very good to get a win. I’ve got no idea where they’ve pulled own goal from! Each to their own, but I’ll take that to the bank.”

LATE CHANGE

“As a professional you’ve just always got to be ready so I was ready and waiting for my chance. It was a bit of a late talk to me but I was ready and raring to go from the start. These things happen. We were on top, they were on top for a bit but we came out on top in the end which is what matters.”

TRAINING HARD

“It’s all thanks to (Mowbray) and the coaching staff for having that belief. I’ve just been training hard and waiting for my chance, and I’m grateful for it. It was a good feeling to say the least, but you can’t let emotions get the better of you. You’ve got to be ready for the game and I thought I was.”

BUZZING

“I might not sleep tonight so it might put me back on the Australia clock! My family stayed up to watch this one and it feels very good. It was brilliant. 40 thousand odd and with every challenge and every pass you could feel the fans and it just brings you more energy.”

ONTO INTERNATIONAL DUTY

“It’ll be good. We’ve got Saudi and Qatar so hopefully another two wins there and we can kick on from that.”
