MR SUNDERLAND: ENTERTAINMENT GUARANTEED

I find it that nowadays a lot of footballers, especially further up the footballing pyramid, have become a little bit boring, they’re all media trained and churn out responses like robots. With Lukey I think he’s one of an unfortunate dying breed. In simple terms, he’s an absolute nutter and we all love him for it, so let’s look back at some of the things he’s done this season...

MAKING MOURINHO FUME

Starting off early in pre-season in Portugal, we were facing European Champions Roma and on the sidelines was none other than Jose Mourinho who might not be too fond of us for ending his record unbeaten streak at home when he was at Chelsea… Anyway, Luke doesn’t half arse his sessions so even though it was a friendly, the need to compete was there and he had already picked up a yellow card, then he made a strong tackle, perhaps too strong for a friendly and it upset ‘The Special One’ who came storming on the pitch demanding 09 be sent off, he never did get a red, but his response on social media after the game was hilarious.

PIGGY BACK

Next up, the infamous piggy back. There are several ways players usually stop their man running in behind and they accept the yellow, in this instance, in front of 38 thousand at the Stadium of Light, in the heat of the moment, his player had passed him and was about to run into acres of space down the line, so as you’d imagine he did what he had to do and took his yellow. Now when I say “did what he had to do” what I mean is he did what only Luke would do. Instead of swiping a leg or pulling him back, Luke jumped on his opponent's back and got himself a nice piggy back around the SOL. Everyone was laughing and it was one of those things that you’ll always remember. Then after the match on social media he made a competition for a signed shirt, and the winner won a signed LON shirt. All people had to do was make a funny edit of the piggy back video and the winner was someone who made him a Grand National winner. Class. When announcing the competition he said: "Right then, we've all established I'm an idiot."

😘😘😘

The other O’Nien moment was the biggest of them all, the Mourinho incident and piggy back made the rounds but this next one went on for a bit longer. The kiss vs Norwich. Usually when players want to get in the other’s head you see them barging each other, kicking out and doing anything they can to rile the other up, but it was getting feisty in the Norwich game and once the ball went out of play Luke squared up with Jacob Sorenson, so to diffuse the situation but keep the mental edge he planted a smooch on his opponent. Once again O’Nien mentioned it on social media with a funny remark as he posted the video:

"When your mam says no getting into fights… just kiss and make up 😘 #doneherproud🥰🤣"

To top it all off, there’s also the little things, just silly little childish things mid-game that make us all laugh and it irritates the opposition. Whether it’s kisses or funny faces he always entertains. Then there’s the celebrations too, anyone remember the O’Nien slide? Any moments worth mentioning that I missed? Let us know!!

I love our little shithouse and long may it continue.

Never change Luke.
