MOWBRAY POST CARDIFF

It was a poor result today against Cardiff, and the young side Mowbray fielded were overwhelmed by the Welsh side. A lack of consistency is the worry for Mowbray, but we’ve been consistently poor in our last two games, despite winning one of them.

LACKLUSTRE

“Well, I think consistency again is a problem for us, we can be good in spells and really poor in other spells. We didn't start the game well enough; I think the first 20/25 minutes we showed them too much respect, they picked us off really. We’re disappointed, intensity, aggression, front four took all of that stuff we sort of missed, we scored another great goal on Wednesday, and I feel a little bit as if we always wanna score great goals but sometimes you have to put your foot in, win headers, compete and be a team that isn't nice to play against whilst being good yourself.”

INCONSISTENT

“We didn't do out of possession stuff really well enough in the first half, second half was better and they had something to protect, they scored early second half and had something to protect and sat a bit deeper, so we had lots of the ball and again not enough clear-cut chances, gotta keep working, inconsistency gotta keep working at it and keep going.”

SIMMS

“Hopefully that 70 minutes will be good for Ellis. We all have to get better and keep going. We’re disappointed because after a really good win away from home it's important to follow it up with a win at home and we’re unable to do that so we left a bit deflated, but we’ll have to pick ourselves up and go again on Friday night next week.”

LOSING DUELS

“A little bit of they would have gone into protect mode really one nil up, first half they were pretty aggressive playing forward and pickings off and I think they won too many duels for me first half because you win a duel the ball goes towards their goal and stops coming towards to yours and it felt like and I don’t know the stats but it felt as if it was going towards our goal too much first half. We’re at home, we need to be aggressive, we need to be on the front foot, win tackles, win headers, win 50/50’s and that's not the way we want to play other than that's just the basics of football, but we felt a little bit short first half.”

YOUTH CHANCE

“I know we made some changes because of third game in a week and I left some experience footballers out and maybe that was a mistake, I think it's important to keep putting in these young players and give them chances and yeah, listen, I’m sure I'll toss and turn in bed tonight thinking did I make the right starting decision because when the experienced players were on we looked a lot better second half. We’ll see, gotta keep going, we’re trying to integrate new players into the squad and sometimes we have to suffer a little bit until hopefully they all become acclimatised and accustomed to what is expected when you play for this club.”

BIRMINGHAM

“We aim to win every game, Birmingham I saw them on the tv the other night, they beat QPR 2-0 and they looked really good, young, athletic, some good loan players for Man United and Chelsea and stuff like that and they looked alright so, a test for us but one that we’ll go and face head on and try and before this World Cup break try finish strong.”
