MOWBRAY POST BURNLEY

Following our collapse at home to Burnley which saw us concede four second half goals Tony Mowbray has given his thoughts on the match, and more importantly he has addressed our set play woes, both offensively and defensively.

BURNLEY'S TOUGHEST GAME

“Obviously we left really disappointed, just been speaking to Mr Kompany there and he said we’re the best team they've played in the first half this season. It was a credit to the team the intensity we managed to find and play at obviously we couldn't sustain it. Another set play goal, we know the issues we’ve got on set plays, it's not something that is easily resolved until we get Danny Ballard, Ross Stewart, Ellis and Aji back . You know there’s just a lack of physicality which gave them the impetus to push on and they've got some really good players and we have to accept that. In our analysis before the game it suggested that it’s probably as good a team we’ll face this season.”

CONTRASTING HALVES

“We could feel their quality in the first half yet we were two up, and could have been more up but that’s football we have to accept it, no excuses. Let's get on with the next one. It's frustrating, disappointing for the supporters of course to see the team do well for a while and then the impression is a collapse really under the pressure that came our way. I stand here with no excuse, I don’t want an excuse, it’s not about who wasn’t available, who didn’t play, what the team was, it was a Sunderland team in a red and white shirt and we should have done better in the second half.”

PUT IT BEHIND US

“They're young players, we have got a spattering of experience but we've got a lot of young players and it's difficult to not change a game really when it got to 2-2 your looking who can we put on, we can put young players on who can run around and bring a bit more energy as the intensity levels dropped of the team and yet Burnley are very experienced and they kept playing forward and kept trying to feed off their mistakes really, ultimately we got punished and we have to accept it and whilst were all disappointed we have to put it behind us really quickly.”

LUTON

“That's the plan, I’ve just been talking about Luton, there’s a more intimidating place to go to in this league than Luton, just a tiny little arena and it feels like small pitch and they ask lots of questions of you, they're very physical and we have to be ready to deal with that and we’ll prepare through the week and see if we can bounce back from this disappointment.”
