Details of Leon Dajaku's transfer have been revealed, whilst Ellis Simms reportedly would prefer a return to Wearside...
DAJAKU CRAIC
Yesterday Leon Dajaku made the move from Sunderland to Hajduk Split, signing a four-year contract. SAFC did not reveal any details of the deal, but Croatian news outlets are reporting that there was no fee paid - nor is there a sell-on clause in the transfer. However, Dajaku was seemingly one of Sunderland's high earners (despite not seeing many first-team minutes) so the Black Cats may have simply been keen to free up his wages, and a spot in the squad.
Speaking to his new club's website, Dajaku said: "It’s great to be here, a great first impression of the club and the city. I am a young player with a lot of fire in me, who loves football and playing for big clubs. I started playing in Germany, the first big steps were in Stuttgart and Bayern, then I went to England where I played for Sunderland. All this helped me to gain experience, sometimes it was better, sometimes worse, but now I am much more mature after going through the mentioned clubs. I have a lot of friends in Croatia, I know a lot about Hajduk, its fans, and I’m really happy to be here. I already know Sahiti who is from my country, I know about Livaja who played for the Croatian national team. I am happy about coming to Hajduk, I will do my best on the field and I hope that we will all have a great season together."
SIMMS LATEST
Ellis Simms' future is still up in the air, with some reports suggesting he would be used as a bargaining tool for Everton to sign Coventry's Viktor Gyokeres. However, despite interest from so many Championship clubs Sunderland is reportedly Ellis Simms' preferred destination. Of course Simms has a successful loan spell here last season - he knows the club, Tony Mowbray knows him and there wouldn't be a bedding-in period as there often is with a new signing. With Ross Stewart supposedly attracting interest from Luton (and the contract situation still unresolved) another striker would massively boost Sunderland's promotion hopes.
