MONDAY ROUNDUP

With a busy Saturday that included two games for Sunderland AFC, here are some other stories from the weekend you may have missed...

WRIGHT FINDS A CLUB

Bailey Wright has signed for Lion City Sailors FC, who play in the Singapore Premier League. The move comes after Wright was recently released by Sunderland by mutual consent, allowing the defender to pursue opportunities overseas. Upon completing the move Wright said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be a part of a club as ambitious as the Sailors, and as well-organised. Everyone at the club has been welcoming, and I’ve had all the support I’ve needed to bed in and get ready to play alongside my new teammates. Everywhere you go, you hope to leave things in a better place than when you first arrived, and that’s exactly what I hope to achieve here in Singapore. I’ve taken in a few games already, and I’m confident that with the coaching staff and the team working hand in hand, we’ll continue to be able to put in performances like we did in the 7-1 win over Tanjong Pagar United. With the Training Centre on Mattar Road and the structures in place, the ingredients for success are present for the club to win trophies.”

BATTH LATEST

Danny Batth was absent from both Sunderland squads for Saturday's friendlies, leading to even more speculation about the defender's future. Tony Mowbray claimed he was missing due to a minor knock, and will travel to the USA with Sunderland for their pre-season tour. However, reports later suggested that Blackburn Rovers have offered our Player of the Season a two-year contract. Sunderland are in a position where they're not actively looking to offload Batth, but have told him his contract won't be renewed next year. So they are happy to step aside should Batth receive an offer from a club giving him more job stability.
