All eyes are focused on Luton on Saturday, some perhaps prematurely on Wembley, so here are some of the stories you might have missed this week.
CLARKE RUMOURS CREEPING BACK UP
As is always the case when a young player has an impressive season in the Championship the Premier League clubs come knocking. Jack Clarke has had the best season of his career this season with us, and those performances have reportedly attracted the interest of both Brentford and Crystal Palace.
There was a report that if we were to sell, we would demand a fee of around £10 million but I don’t think that’s even that much to ask for given his numbers this season. For example, Wolves signed Adama Traore from Boro back in 2018 for £18m. In his last season for Boro he had five goals and twelve assists. Jack Clarke has eleven goals and twelve assists so surely we’d get more than £10m. Easy. Plus, his current deal doesn’t run out until 2026 so we won’t be in any hurry to cash in.
And one other rumour going around was that we may offer him a new contract to fend off the Premier League interest by giving him a raise in his wages.
OLDEST FAN DIES
Arnold Landau had been supporting the lads for 94 years and passed away recently, aged 101. He attended the 1937 Fa Cup winners homecoming parade and was also at Wembley to witness our Fa Cup victory in ‘73. On his 100th birthday the club sent him a football and birthday card which were both signed by the team to thank him for his support of the lads over the years.
UNITED MAKING AMAD FEEL AT HOME
We all know by now Manchester United want to try Amad out in their pre season friendlies in the next few months and as they try to reintegrate him back into their squad they have invited Amad over to Wembley to watch the Fa Cup final as Manchester United play Manchester City. The match is set to be played on the third of June, one week after the Championship final.
