LOAN WATCH

Updated: Feb 23

Sunderland currently have ten players out on loan, here's how they and their respective sides got on in their latest fixtures.

ZAK JOHNSON- DUNDALK

Johnson joined Irish side Dundalk on loan from Wearside earlier this month until the end of the season, the Irish Premier League runs from February until November. The Wearside man featured in the squad as a sub as Dundalk faced Shamrock Rovers for the first game of the season, drawing 1-1 away from home.

NEXT UP: GALWAY UNITED 23.02.24 (19:45 KO)

JAY MATETE- OXFORD UNITED

In Oxford’s last match, where they drew 2-2 to Northampton Town at home, Matete only featured in the last seven minutes of the game after starting in the two games prior to this fixture. Oxford United are fifth in League One at the moment so a third promotion in a row for Jay Matete out of third tier remains very much achievable.

NEXT UP: LEYTON ORIENT 24.02.24 (15:00 KO)

ELIEZER MAYENDA- HIBS

Hibs currently sit 7th in the Scottish Premiership and will want to push into the top half before the league splits in mid-April although they are five points off so they’ll have to improve their form to do that. Mayenda did not feature in the squad during the latest Hibs match where they drew 2-2 with Aberdeen away from home. The most recent time Mayenda played for the Scottish club was the first half of their Scottish Cup fifth round tie, where they beat Inverness 3-1 away. The forward has unfortunately been unable to get on the scoresheet for Hibs so far.

NECTARIOS TRIANTIS- HIBS

Triantis is also on loan at Hibs, joining his fellow SAFC man, Mayenda. Triantis however featured for the full 90 minutes during Hibs’ latest fixture (a 2-2 draw with Aberdeen). The centre back has played every minute of every Hibs game since joining and looks to be a great addition to the Scottish side.

JEWISON BENNETTE- ARIS

Aris currently sit 5th in the Greek Super League and in their latest game they beat Atromitos 2-0 away from home with Bennette taking part in the first 45 minutes of the match. The left winger has unfortunately been unable to get on the score sheet for Aris as of yet however he has only featured twice, being subbed off at half time in both occasions since joining the Greek side. There are three games remaining before the league splits and with Jewi’s side eight points clear into the top six they have all but confirmed they will spend the rest of the campaign fighting for European qualification. They are also one game away from the Greek Cup final, going into their second leg semi-final clash at home to Panetolikos with a 1-0 lead.

NEXT UP: NFC VOLOS 25.02.24 (17:30 KO)

JACK DIAMOND- CARLISLE

Sitting bottom of League One, Carlisle are currently thirteen points away from safety. In their latest match they were beaten 4-0 by Cambridge at home with Diamond starting and being subbed off after 64 minutes. He has made four appearances since joining but has been unable to score or assist as of yet.

NEXT UP: BRISTOL ROVERS 24.02.24 (15:00 KO)

HARRY GARDINER- BLYTH SPARTANS

Harry Gardiner extended his previous one month loan deal with Blyth Spartans until end of the season a few days ago. Blyth sit 15th in the National League North and in their latest match they lost 1-0 to Farsley Celtic away from home. Gardiner played 85 minutes of the game. He has so far played eight times, scoring three. Blyth are seven points above the relegation zone with 12 matches left so a few more wins should be enough to ensure they don’t drop into the seventh tier.

NEXT UP: BOSTON UNITED 24.02.24 (15:00 KO)

MATTY YOUNG- DARLINGTON

The quakers currently find themselves 23rd in the table, seven points from safety. In Darlo’s last game they were beaten 2-0 by Boston United away from home, the 17 year old keeper played the full 90 minutes. This was however off the back of a triumphant victory for the side as they beat South Shields 4-0 away which Young started in. The Quakers need to pick results up and quickly with only 13 games left to go.

NEXT UP: BUXTON 24.02.24 (15:00 KO)

ALEX BASS- AFC WIMBLEDON

Continuing his season-long loan at Wimbledon, Alex Bass featured in their latest match where they were beaten 1-0 by Crawley Town at home. Bass is a regular starter at the League Two side but with the end of the season nearing, Wimbledon currently sit in ninth position and are one point outside of playoffs so every game counts.

NEXT UP: DONCASTER 24.02.24 (15:00 KO)

JOE ANDERSON- SHREWSBURY TOWN

Also continuing his season long loan is Joe Anderson at Shrewsbury where he last featured on the bench for Shrewsbury in their 2-1 defeat to Peterborough on the 20th of January. Anderson has not featured in the League One side since. Their last match was a 1-0 defeat to Wigan at home and they sit 19th in the table, only three points outside of the bottom four.
