LJ POST DONS

Lee Johnson spoke about his plans for Jack Diamond, after the young winger was omitted from the bench against AFC Wimbledon. The head coach was also impressed by the duo of Carl Winchester and Anthony Patterson.

LOAN

"It's something we've discussed with Jack. We have talked about a loan."

DEVELOPMENT

“I've said many times that to properly develop a young player, they probably need 25 starts across a season. That's no different to 90% of our players and especially the younger ones."

INTEREST

“We've had a lot of loan offers for Jack and clubs showing interest in a loan deal. We are also potentially in the market for that type of position."

JOSH HAWKES

“We've also got Josh Hawkes and he's done well. He's got that quality and today I just thought, there's a chance that in the last 20 minutes or so we could have them camped in their box and I think Hawkesy has that very good scoring record."

TIGHT DECISION

“It was a tight decision. If I could put them both in a tumble dryer I would have a top, top player. But of course they're both still learning, still developing.”

WINCHESTER

“I thought Carl was outstanding from start to finish. I think the crowd have been enjoying his performances and are seeing the reason why we brought a quality player in."

TRUSTED

“He’s trusted. He’s trusted in midfield, he’s trusted as a ten and he’s trusted at right-back. I could even play him at centre-half if I needed to, he’s just such a good footballer."

BIGGEST CLUB

“He just loves playing here. It’s the biggest club he’s been at by a long way, probably the biggest crowd he’s ever scored in front of today. I think that means a lot, particularly when you’ve got a guy who’s 28 and really should have played higher earlier on his career.”

PATTERSON

“I thought Patto did well. I thought his positioning as good. In the first half, he came and grabbed a couple of crosses and his distribution was excellent as well. But, of course, the players in front of him had to protect him."

ADVERSITY

“We had a little bit of adversity to get over in the warm-up when Burgey was out, but I felt very comfortable with Patto, and I think he’s proved us all right again with that performance. He was steady, calm, composed and quite mature I’d say given his age.”
