GOODMAN ON PROMOTION CHANCES

Former Sunderland player Don Goodman has given his opinion on our promotion chances. Normally the majority of ex-SAFC player comments can be dismissed out of hand, but Goodman raises some good points about the standard of competition aiming for those 4 play-off places. After the high of Saturday, Goodman’s comments illustrate the enormity of the task at hand, given the form of our promotion rivals…

DISSAPPEARED

“I think, as I say, the automatic promotion has disappeared over the hill and any drop-off in form is going to leave them exposed in terms of staying in the play-offs, isn’t it?”

TOUGH

“You’ve got some really, really good teams in good form. MK Dons have won their last three, Oxford have won their last three, Sheffield Wednesday are flying again so even if they do get in the play-offs it is going to be a tough ask for Sunderland to get promoted.”

CONFIDENCE

“But look, to go away and win 3-0 at Wigan has to give you confidence, it has to be a shot in the arm and they have to take self-belief from that.”

DANGER

“And if they can maintain those levels then there is no question, they will be in the play-offs and they will be a danger to the others in the play-offs.”
