Sunderland have a long break coming up, and Tony Mowbray is looking towards the second half of the season - as well as discussing Bailey Wright and Jewison Bennette's World Cup ambitions.
SECOND HALF OF SEASON
“We are going to get a lot more points in the second half of the season than we did in the first. I think it will do the injured players really good because they’re not missing football matches and as the time goes by they get closer to fitness.”
TRANSFERS
“At this moment, I haven't seen the list that the recruitment department has been putting together. I don't know on what levels financial support will be given towards signing the players in positions that we wanna sign. But I'm sure those moments are coming.”
BUDGET
“We’ve had one meeting and we’ve identified where we feel we need to strengthen the team positionally and whether that's with three or four £10 million players or £5 million players or £1 million players or free transfers I’ll find out in the next few weeks.”
LADS GOING TO QATAR
“I’ve spoken to them both obviously when we got the news that they were both included you just wish them well. They're both playing for countries that have got ridiculously tough groups. Their aspirations probably aren't anything above going and enjoying the experience and trying to make their country proud.”
BAILEY WRIGHT
“It’s a unique World Cup mid season in a middle eastern country so it's an unusual World Cup but it’ll go down in the annals of history. For Bailey it’s amazing, it's good timing for him as he’s got back into the team some injuries have allowed that to happen but it's giving him good game time and I hope he can impact his national team in the World Cup. He’s got Mbappe to play against so erm…good luck to him!”
BENNETTE
“Jewison, he’s a young boy and he's got wonderful talent and attributes. It should just be an amazing experience for him and he should go out and enjoy it. We'll see what happens and see how he gets on. There's some amazing teams in his group, is it Spain and Germany? Just wow, good luck again!”
