DODDS POST WATFORD

Despite what his face suggests in this picture, Mike Dodds reckons Sunderland should have beaten Watford and thought the team created plenty of chances.

SHOULD HAVE WON

"My initial reflections are that I’m upset for the group, I’m upset for the fans that have travelled down and for the fans back up in the north east, because how we’ve not come away with three points is beyond me. I don’t take any pride in this, but when you come off the pitch and their staff and players are saying ‘how have we got away with that one?’ it makes it even harder to swallow. I thought we were the better team and should have been 2-0 up in the first half. In particular the first half, we completely limited their chances. I was disappointed with the goal we gave away because they play through the middle of the pitch far too easily, and they breach our backline far too easily, so the goal is really poor to give away. But that being said, we’ve had more than enough chances to not even draw the game, it’s one we should be winning. So I’m upset for everyone associated with the football club because that shouldn’t be a defeat.”

ONTO SHEFF WED

“I’ve literally just said as we walked out of the dressing room, we’ve got a full week to prepare for the game on Saturday. Obviously they’ll be well and truly up for it because their livelihoods are on the line. We have to perform to a similar type of level in terms of the chances we’ve created in the game, and for large pockets I thought we were really good in possession and had spells of being a lot more fluid and we created three or four really clear-cut opportunities which we have to score to be honest."

BIG SUMMER AHEAD

"If we do that next Saturday we’ll hopefully give the fans something positive to go away with in the summer. It’s going to be a big summer for the group, myself and everyone associated with the football club.”
