DODDS ENDS THE SEASON

Mike Dodds closed the season with the following words, after Sunderland's drab defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on the final day.

MOMENTS COST US

“I think we created probably four or five really good chances. Similar to last week in terms of taking those chances, it’s ultimately cost us the game. I thought their two goals were really poor to give away. They were almost identical in terms of individual people letting players run off their shoulders, which you can’t legislate for as a coach. Those moments, those decision-making moments from players are really important. Ultimately those two factors have cost us the game. So, chances created - not clinical enough in front of goal, and they’ve had two moments in the game in quite close succession and obviously they’ve punished us for those two moments. Apart from that they didn’t really have any opportunities. Again, overriding thoughts are real frustration but you can’t be poor in both boxes and expect a result from any game.”

LEARNT A LOT

“I think from my perspective and the club’s perspective, we’ve learned a huge amount about this group. We’ve got to use those kind of reflections to make sure we have a much better season next year. We haven’t given the fans a huge amount to cheer about this season, we know that, which is something which we won’t accept for next season. So, we’ve got to take a lot of learning from this season and make sure next season is significantly better.”
