Sunderland have confirmed Jack Clarke will be out of action for "up to six weeks".
The winger sustained an ankle ligament injury away to Birmingham City which meant he missed Saturday's game against Swansea.
Of course there's never a good time to be injured, but this is perhaps the worst period for Clarke to miss. Sunderland face Norwich, Leicester and Southampton in the coming weeks and will be without their star man.
The 23-year-old has undoubtedly been this season's standout performer with 15 goals and four assists. He will now undergo a period of rehabilitation before an anticipated return to training in April.
