BEALE'S FIRST WIN

Michael Beale reflected on his first win in charge of Sunderland, as well as issuing the latest updates on Niall Huggins and Bradley Dack...

NO TIME TO WORK

"I've come in and it's clear we've not had much time to work, and certainly Saturday [against Coventry] was so demoralising, it was so cruel on us the game, we haven't had much time inbetween."

BIG WIN

"We knew we were coming here and I have a lot of respect for Liam, he is a friend outside of football and I have a lot of respect for the way his team plays, so I knew it would be a tough game. I also knew we hadn't won away from home for quite a long time. There were a lot of things I wanted to see from the group today and they showed a big response."

COULD HAVE SCORED MORE

"I thought we should have won by more. I know that late in the game they had a couple of scrambles, you expect that as the away team as you start to tire in the second game in three days while they had an extra day's rest. But we missed some big chances before that. Some of our inter-play was really, really, good and it was just whether we were going to execute in the final third and that's probably the story of our team this season. It was a fantastic goal from Jack and I'm absolutely delighted with the mentality of the group after Saturday."

BE MORE CLINICAL

"It was [a case of] what team is going to punish the other. I think sometimes we are a little bit fussy in the final third trying to score the perfect goal. It was an excellent goal from Jack today but sometimes we get there in the final third and we want the extra pass when there is a shot on. There's no doubt that we play good football, but it has to be effective in the final third."

HUGGINS

"Because it was the evening of December 23, it was hard to get the scans and the results back before today. We're still waiting on that and we'll give you some news in the next 48 hours, hopefully."

LATEST DACK CRAIC

"Bradley came off with a hamstring injury and again he will have to go for a scan to see the extent of that. I feel for Brad because he has missed a lot of football over the last couple of years and even this season it has been stop-start [for him]."
