Former Sunderland fullback Phil Bardsley has announced his retirement at the age of 37.
Bardsley, who came through the ranks as a Manchester United youngster, signed for SAFC in 2007/08 for an initial fee of £850,000.
The deal turned out to be a bargain for the former Scotland international, who would spend seven seasons with the Black Cats before joining Stoke City and then Burnley.
The ex-Manchester United, Rangers, Aston Villa Sheffield United, Burnley, Stoke City and Sunderland man was released from Burnley in 2022 and finally joined Stockport County, although injuries meant appearances were limited in League Two.
