After a weekend of contract renewals and new signings, yesterday was pretty quiet in regards to SAFC - but here are a few stories you may have missed.
NECTAR INJURY
Sunderland's first signing of the summer Nectarios Triantis picked up an injury while on international duty with Australia under-20s. The centre back was ruled out of their game against France under-20s, with the Socceroos' Twitter account confirming his absence. However, the extent of the injury has not yet been revealed - it is very possible that Triantis was left out simply as a precaution.
ANOTHER STRIKER LINKED
Following the signing of Luis 'Hemir' Semedo on Sunday, reports are now linking Sunderland with French striker Matthis Abline. The 20-year-old has spent his career so far at Rennes (as well as a few loan moves) but French outlet Le Parisien has claimed the striker could leave the club this summer. Sunderland will have to fight off fierce competition for Abline though, with Reims, Lorient and Strasbourg all credited with an interest in the striker. He's supposedly rated around the £7 million mark.
MOORE GONE
In other news, Darren Moore is no longer manager of Sunderland's upcoming Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday. In a shocking turn of events, the Owls released a statement saying Moore "left the club by mutual consent". The departure is extremely surprising, as Sheffield Wednesday have just won promotion to the Championship through the play-offs - including a thrilling two-leg bout with Peterborough, where Wednesday overcame a 4-0 deficit to win the tie on penalties. The bookies have given Tony Mowbray an outside shot at taking the job, with SkyBet placing him at 33/1. That's the same odds as both former SAFC men Sam Allardyce and Phil Parkinson. Don't be alarmed by Mowbray's name being thrown into the mix, the bookies have provided odds on 46 different managers. I'd say it is unlikely that we'll see another Alex Neil situation.
