In the news: A former Sunderland captain was in talks over a coaching role, whilst everything Chris Rigg touches turns to gold right now...

CATTS COACHING DISCUSSIONS

The Sunderland Echo have reported that Sunderland have engaged in discussions with Lee Cattermole over a coaching role at the Academy of Light. This is because highly-rated under-18s coach Adam Ashgar is set to leave for a U21 job at Southampton, leaving a gap in our coaching set-up. Despite brief talks being held between 35-year-old Cattermole and the club, it is reported that both parties have 'mutually agreed' to end talks already. Catts left his coaching role at Middlesbrough in February to "pursue the next step in his coaching career" but has been without a permanent job since.

RIGGY SCORES FOR ENGLAND

Sunderland starlet Chris Rigg made an impact on the international stage last night as England under-17s defeated Spain 4-1. Not only did the 16-year-old captain his country, but he also got on the scoresheet with a header alongside a brace from Manchester United’s Shea Lacey and a goal from Chelsea striker Shumaira Mheuka.
