Intent, Pace And Desire

So, we record our biggest home win in 21 years, a time for reflection and credit where credit due. I also want to ponder on the rumour mill that emanates around the corridors of SoL.


The match was PP’s first at home and he and the players have laid down a marker, one I wish they continue for the rest of the season. OK Tranmere did not present a big challenge but let’s be bloody honest there have being many sides that have not and we have not put them to the sword.

There was shape, intent, pace, desire, commitment all over the park and a professional calmness about the team. Not one player had a poor game, five scorers and a dugout change.

My pick of the bunch were Maguire, who gained pace and was the footballing brain on the field. Watmore whose pace caused the damage early on and a special mention to Grigg, who has his detractors and whose body language suggests does not appreciate the experience, but he showed he can lead a line with the right support around him. I hope this gives him the confidence to kick on and also know that when things are good there are no better supporters to play for.

Taking off Grigg for a standing ovation from many showed great man management from PP and changing the position of his seat in the dugout, changes the dynamic and togetherness, which maybe a small thing but shows to me he is already stamping his presence on the side. The last time a bench changed with a new boss was when Reidy came in. I hope for the same outcome.

Rumour Mill

If I believed all of the supposedly hot off the press stuff I’m told, we would be bankrupt one day and super rich the next , we would despise the board one day and herald them the next… the contradiction and hypocrisy is rampant and that is my issue, if there are that many leaks in this club, I would hire Coleen Rooney to smoke out the culprits.

I would like the club to run with a transparency and professionalism that lifts it from the corridor whisperers. Speculation is common place in all business but you can affect the culture from the top and I welcome the day when this is properly implemented.
