Things & Stuff

Jack Baldwin, who is looking like a great signing, has been praising his central defensive partner in crime, Glenn Loovens. “Glenn’s brilliant to play alongside,” said Baldwin. “He’s sometimes a bit too calm in possession for me but he’s got the leadership and the knowledge of the game, and that will just seep out to me as a player who is younger than him and still learning my way in the game. It’s similar for the lads in front. Young Bali (Mumba) has got a lot to learn but he can learn from people like Glenn about positioning and where he wants him – it’s only good for the squad.”

Meanwhile, Sebastian Larsson has been chatting about his career and had a few nice words for Sunderland fans. “Sunderland fans deserve better. I was hurt when they went down [to League One last season]. It’s a place where I spent six years – we obviously had our ups and downs but it’s a wonderful club, with super fans, and they deserve better than that. I’d be thrilled if Sunderland got back to the Championship. The potential is there, but we have said this before about the clubs in the north-east and for some reason they don’t manage to fulfil it. But with new owners coming in and a new lease of life at the club, hopefully they can be back in the Championship and then the Premier League before long.”

In other news, our match with Fleetwood on September 8 will not be postponed because of internationals fixtures, even if Lynden Gooch and Bryan Oviedo are selected for their prospective countries that weekend. Probably for the best as we don’t want a fixture backlog.
