Transfer Progress

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

Sunderland are in for Bradford City’s striker Charlie Wyke. Sheffield United's free scoring Billy Sharp has also been thrown into the mix. The duo would certainly be more like the type of striking partnership required to progress in League One. This follows concerns over the current state of the squad, but Stewart Donald is confident of bringing in another half a dozen players before thesis season kicks off, which is about how many we need: "We are looking to add six or so down the spine of the team in the next week or two. Just give us a little time to try and strengthen the squad. We can all see what we need. I know it’s frustrating, but we are working hard to get it right. Thanks. Our first bid was back in June. We have three bids in at the moment for players."

In other news, Reece James reckons that Jack Ross’ man management has been brilliant so far. “Jack Ross has been really good, absolutely fantastic. I think everyone’s said the exact same thing. Everything we’ve done has been complete football, he’s got his message across well and I think everyone’s buying into what he’s doing. The style of football he wants us to play, he wants us to try and get the ball down, to try to play and play the ball out from the back. Any player, especially one who’s come through an academy like Manchester United’s as I have wants to do that. We don’t want to be getting it at our feet and just looking long every time. That’s the message the manager wants to get across to us all. So far, his man-management has been absolutely brilliant. He’s been so approachable and the message he wants to get across to the players has been brilliant.”
